Oris, France’s Ligue de Football Professionnel and the French association of children’s charities (CNAPE) come together for the LFP Limited Edition: a watch for a great cause.
Oris is a brand known for its sustainability efforts, and it chooses its partnerships wisely in ways where it can either fight for change or promote efforts to that effect. This new release is no different but it is no less a unique approach. As part of an announcement of becoming France’s Ligue de Football Professionnel’s official timekeeper, Oris has also announced a partnership with LFP via the creation of a watch inspired by CNAPE the children’s charity and it’s annual children’s football (some might call it soccer) tournament.
The cause here is more than worthy, but its the execution of the design that really elevates this announcement. The brand chose to utilize its Divers Sixty-Five format as the basis for the overall design but made some truly bold choices in the finished product.
No doubt, the first thing you might notice is there’s an overall look of innocence to the blue dial. At 12 o’clock, Oris made what might be considered a controversial change in replacing its well known wordmark with a handwritten variation. This handwritten typeface is meant to evoke that of a child and really helps to drive home the overall purpose of the release and the partnership.
You see this childlike flourish continued on to the text at the six o’clock end of the dial. The Water Resistant text takes things one step further with its use of alternating colors which borrow their overall scheme from the CNAPE annual children’s football tournament.
Similar to the Divers Sixty-Five Cotton Candy editions, this 38mm watch features a steel dive-time bezel and the guardless crown. It comes affixed to a steel three-link bracelet which completes the recognizable steely look. Inside beats the Oris caliber 733, an automatic caliber equipped with 41 hours of power reserve.
Overall, I really like the way Oris leans into these initiatives. From the charitable efforts linked to its MLB releases with the Roberto Clemente and Hank Aarron, this is yet another step forward for a brand that has demonstrated a serious commitment to altruism and sustainability.
As you might expect, this is a limited edition. In all, there will be 1,000 numbered editions of this watch. It launched immediately and carries a price of $2,800.
