The two inventive brands release a new limited edition duo in a tangy color palette of purples and golds at Geneva Watch Days.
Today at Geneva Watch Days, two brands on opposing ends of the watch industry spectrum (at least in terms of price) have joined forces to create a limited edition one-two punch drawing from a shared passion for not only horology but the unexpected. The players in question are none other than H. Moser & Cie and Studio Underd0g – yes, you read that right – who have just debuted a duo of purple and golden-hued pieces inspired by the colors of the passionfruit – a fitting symbol of the aforementioned horological passion.
Interestingly enough, this isn’t the first time either brand has experimented with fruity-fresh color schemes (see the Watermel0n Gen2 and Pioneer Centre Seconds in Citrus Green). In this case, the bold color palette has been applied to the 03SERIES Passi0n Fruit and the Endeavour Perpetual Calendar Passion Fruit by Studio Underd0g and H. Moser & Cie, respectively. Additionally, right from the H. Moser playbook, both watches are completely unburdened by any logos, allowing the bright acidic color palette and streamlined design to speak for itself.
While the stylistic and thematic connection between the two is immediately apparent, each piece maintains its own individuality through the details, functionality, and craftsmanship, maintaining the unique spirit of each brand. In the case of the Endeavour Perpetual Calendar Passion Fruit, we’re working with the slightly larger dimensions of the two with a 42mm diameter and a 12.8mm thickness crafted in brightly polished stainless steel – but you have to have some extra real estate to pack in that added functionality, afterall. The purple elements of the dial are lacquered with a sunburst finish, while the center dial utilized Grand Feu enamel techniques on an 18K rose gold plate which has undergone a hammering finish to add even more depth and texture.
As the name suggests, this piece features include a perpetual calendar complication, along with a big date display at three o’clock, a seconds subdial at six o’clock, a power reserve indicator at nine o’clock, and a month indicator via the central hand. This extensive functionality is possible thanks to the hand-wound HMC 800 manufacture movement within, which has a power reserve of at least 7 days. And, with the sapphire crystal caseback, you are free to observe all the intricate finishing techniques of this movement with a flip of the watch.
For the Studio Underd0g 03SERIES Passi0n Fruit, this piece’s stainless steel case is slightly smaller in diameter measuring 38.5mm, but is a touch thicker with its profile of 13.6mm. In this case, the source of the dynamism of the dial (aside from its vibrant color palette) is its multi-layer construction, mixing a purple radial brushed base topped with a golden coarse degradé amber.
As for the movement, this piece is equipped with the hand-wound Sellita SW510 M monopusher chronograph movement, which has a power reserve of 63 hours and features hacking seconds. Like its counterpart, the caseback on this piece is a flat sapphire crystal, so you have a full view of the movement within, including a branded Studio Underd0g engraving .
This collection is definitely intended for the serious collector – and I could argue that this “if you know, you know” quality is a quintessential part of both brands' identities. Each piece is limited to 100 units, paired with a black leather strap, and are sold as a set, priced at $64,900.
