The Chronomaster Sport is the modern culmination of the El Primero chronograph lineage, and since its introduction in 2021, Zenith has expanded the collection to include an impressive breadth of diversity in materials and colors. Today, as LVMH Watch Week 2025 kicks off, Zenith takes things a step further, with the introduction of the Chronomaster Sport Rainbow, which is not a reference to the brand’s chronograph collection of the ‘90s, but rather a literal description of the fully gem-set bezel. This is the most opulent execution of the Chronomaster Sport to date, with a look we’ve grown somewhat accustomed to seeing elsewhere, mixing a sporting foundation with more precious gemstones than you can shake a stick at.
Zenith had a clear hit on its hands with the release of the Chronomaster Sport in 2021, offering a take on the classic three-register design paired with a ceramic bezel. Initially launched with both white and black dials, the watches felt like a nod to the movement’s time spent within the confines of the Rolex Daytona through the ‘90s, to be charitable. The collection has grown to include a range of options, including precious metal and titanium cases. The most decadent example to date has a full rose-gold case and bracelet, with a fully gem-set bezel featuring baguettes that match the colors of the grey, black, and blue subdials. It is this theme that Zenith is returning to in a big way with the release of the Chronomaster Sport Rainbow.
So-called rainbow bezels have experienced something of a resurgence across the board in recent years, with many brands seeking to put their own spin on the concept. This largely stems from the release of Rolex’s 116595RBOW Daytona in 2018, which caught the attention of enthusiasts and fashion influencers alike. Rolex has been offering the unusual configuration since 2012, and it’s become the de facto “It” watch compounded by the rise of hype-watch culture. It’s an easy look to be cynical about; however, there’s something undeniably captivating about it when done properly.
Zenith is no stranger to the rainbow-style bezel, having approached it in a variety of watches within the Defy collection. This Chronomaster Sport Rainbow is the most overt execution yet, however. The bezel sports 50 baguette-cur gemstones that transition between red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet (thanks, ROY G. BIV!) — though not in an unbroken transition, as we see on the Daytona. Here, Zenith uses a clear stone at every five-minute segment, which serves to break up the seamless flow of color. It’s the same story on the rose-gold example referenced earlier. This decision adds a wrinkle into the already polarizing design, but it does distinguish the watch from other such creations, making it unique to Zenith. The colorful stones are carried into the dial as well, with a different-colored gem set at each hour marker.
This watch marks the first use of white gold within the Chronomaster Sport collection: the material forms the 41mm case and bracelet, both of which follow the familiar design language seen elsewhere in the collection, with their mix of satin and polished finishes. Inside remains the El Primero 3600 high-beat automatic chronograph movement, capable of timing down to 1/10th of a second, and employing the signature date at 4:30 on the dial. The El Primero DNA comes through loud and clear, even through the big colors found on the bezel. It’s a fun and unexpected mix of styles that feels at home here, as El Primero chronographs have never shied away from expressive designs, and Zenith, as a brand, has never shied away from risks.
The Zenith Chronomaster Sport Rainbow is a boutique exclusive, and is priced at $112,100.
