A swap of the crown brings a big change to an otherwise familiar package.
Left-handers rejoice! Doxa has just unveiled a first for the legendary brand, a dive watch with a left-sided crown. That's right, the venerable brand known for its distinctive line of dive watches is making a move we have seen others in the watch world from Rolex to Tudor also make. Both the Pelagos LHD and the GMT-Master II with its left-hand crown have become popular entrants in their respective collections.
This new watch is being touted as the Aristera – a significant name as it is Greek for “left.” The format we are seeing here is the classic Diver 300T series, and the watch is currently only being offered in the iconic orange “Professional” variation.
That means we are getting the classic matte orange coloration that hardcore dive fans have loved for nearly half a century. The dial furniture is very familiar on this new watch, with painted markers and the usual, off-center dial text.
We still get that 42.5mm monobloc case construction and tactical steel bezel which works nicely on the punchy dial and its high contrast, and highly legible handset. This dial, despite the relocation of the crown, maintains the date window at three o’clock unlike the Rolex which moved the date to nine o’clock.
Of course, the main draw here is the left-sided crown which will both come to the delight of left-handers and any righty’s who just like the look of a watch with the crown side down. Those delighted fans may become slightly less delighted to learn that all of their excitement and exclusivity comes with the caveat that these are being limited to 300 watches.
The watch comes on the beads of rice bracelet that Doxa has become known for, but also comes with a NATO strap. Inside the watch, the movement beats at 4Hz and offers 38 hours of power reserve.
The Aristera will be available in October and will cost $2,490.
