Surprise, A New Blancpain X Swatch Scuba Fifty Fathoms Just Dropped

The seventh version of the Blancpain x Swatch Scuba Fifty Fathoms was just quietly released over the weekend. 2024 was bookended with these affordable takes on the iconic diver with the last release being January’s black “Ocean of Storms” model. This time things are a bit more vibrant and colorful with the new Blue Lagoon version which is a spin on turquoise.

For those who need a primer on the Scuba Fifty Fathoms, these are basically the diver version of the MoonSwatch in which Swatch took an iconic watch (in that case the Omega Speedmaster) and released an affordable take done in Bioceramic cases (Bioceramic being a composite of zirconium oxide ceramic powder and a derivation of castor oil). This new model’s bright blue color is inspired by the Nudibranch, a gastropod mollusk known for their striking colors. In fact, the case back has an illustration of one with Swatch noting that “This collection comes in exclusive colors that were inspired by various nudibranchs. Nudibranchs inhabit the oceans and are known for their often-extraordinary colors and striking forms. Tambja Mullineri is known for its vibrant colors, which can include unique shades of turquoise blue.”

The basics are the same here with the bioceramic case (91 m of water resistance) measuring 42.3mm wide and 14.4mm thick with a 48mm lug-to-lug measurement. This model is outfitted with a matching blue NATO strap which thankfully does not block the case back illustration or add any thickness. Finally, the automatic System 51 movement operates at 3 Hz and has an impressive 90-hour power reserve.
