Rolex introduced the Perpetual 1908 collection, the elegant descendant of its Cellini dress watch collection, in 2023, and expanded it with a crowd-pleasing ice-blue-dialed version on the sophomore release in 2024. While the lion’s share of attention, for both Rolex and the Watches & Wonders 2025 exhibition in general, is surely trained on the Crown’s historic release of the new Land-Dweller model and its groundbreaking high-beat movement, the latest member of Rolex’s dressiest product family is also worthy of some enthusiast attention. It’s the first model in the collection, which is named for the year that Rolex founder Hans Wilsdorf named the company, to marry a case in 18k yellow gold with an all-new, seven-link, jewelry-inspired bracelet in the same precious metal for a supple and sleek wrist presence.
Like its predecessors, the dial of the new Perpetual 1908, here in an “intense” white, features distinctly stylish Arabic applied numerals at 3, 6, and 9 o'clock, faceted hour markers and Breguet-style hands. At 6 o’clock is the small seconds display, along with Rolex’s “Superlative Chronometer” inscription. The softly rounded, yellow-gold case measures a modest but substantial 39mm in diameter, with vintage-look fluted sides and curved, chamfered lugs.
On this new model, those lugs attach not to an alligator leather strap but to the newly developed Settimo bracelet, whose gold links are made from very small contoured link elements with polishing on all their surfaces. Together, these links hug the wrist and, perhaps even more notably, fasten with a concealed folding clasp for which a patent has been filed. This brand-new bracelet design, Rolex says, has been exclusively created for the Perpetual 1908 model; whether it will migrate, like its ancestor the Jubilee, to other Rolex families and models is a question for the future, but for now it is an element that further helps refine the distinctive identity of this new yet historically rooted collection.
The movement inside remains the same: Rolex’s in-house “perpetual” (i.e., self-winding) Caliber 7140, whose technical attributes include a 66-hour power reserve, a 4-Hz frequency, an antimagnetic hairspring made of Syloxi, Rolex's proprietary silicon material, and the brand's super-efficient Chronergy escapement. It also boasts Rolex's Superlative Chronometer certification, speaking to its elite-level accuracy of +/- 2 seconds daily, and a host of decorative finishes that can be seen through the exhibition back — the latter element still a rarity for Rolexes, despite the use of one in the new Land-Dweller.
The Rolex Perpetual 1908 in yellow gold on the Settimo bracelet will retail for $35,000.
