Watches & Wonders 2024: Nomos Glashütte Unveils 31 New Colorways of the Tangente 38

Germany’s Nomos Glashütte is making its inaugural appearance as an exhibiting brand at the world’s biggest luxury watch fair, Watches & Wonders Geneva, and for 2024 the brand’s latest collection is all about color — 31 of them, to be exact.

Each model in the “Nomos Tangente 38 Date - 175 Years Watchmaking Glashütte” series is a limited edition of 175 pieces, celebrating the anniversary of the horological trade in the East German town where Nomos, along with other well-known watchmakers like A. Lange & Söhne and Glashütte Original, are based. Appropriately, Nomos has chosen its flagship model, and winner of multiple design awards, the Bauhaus-inspired Tangente, as the canvas for this dazzling lineup of colorways and color combinations. All 31 references showcased at the Geneva exhibition will be released to market simultaneously, and priced, the brand promises, lower than the standard Tangente model to increase accessibility.

Among the rainbow of choices — one for each day of the month, Nomos says, and all of them more or less “unisex” — are the “Sportbunt model,” with a ‘70s-style combo of light red main dial, dark red subdial, cream numerals, and turquoise and yellow outer rings; “Chili” with a hot-pink and magenta-shaded dial on a gray textile strap; “Poporange,” with bright and burnt orange elements; “Schlossgrun,” combining forest green and gray; “Pompadour,” with light pastels of pink and beige; and “Tiefseegrau,” (“deep sea gray”), matching a dark anthracite with cream and dusty pink details. Each model comes in a stainless steel case which measures 37.5mm in diameter and features an exhibition caseback with the watch’s engraved limited-edition number.

Nomos calls the Tangente, which debuted in 1992 as one of the company’s founding pillars, its “round watch with right angles,” with a dial design and numeral font taken directly from the Bauhaus heyday of the 1930s. The Date model features a small seconds subdial at 6 o’clock over a date window that occupies the outermost borders of the dial. The latter feature is made possible by the movement, Nomos’ hand-wound Caliber DUW 4101, which features an integrated date ring with large numerals placed around the movement’s periphery; impressively, Nomos has engineered the date ring of each individual watch so that the background color of the date numeral matches the color of the main dial for aesthetic harmony.
