Product Description

In the 1980s, Breitling created a durable yet stylish chronograph for the Frecce Tricolori Jet team. To protect the watch crystal from damage when pilots opened their aircraft canopies, Breitling recessed the crystal and added raised "rider tabs" at the 15-minute marks. This design became the basis for the 1984 Chronomat, featuring Chronomat signatures to this day – signature rider tabs, an "onion" crown, and the durable “Rouleaux” bracelet.

Brand History

Breitling

Founded in 1884 by Léon Breitling, Breitling was an early pioneer in producing timekeepers, especially chronographs, for sports as well as for automobiles and airplanes. It was aviation that Breitling would primarily embrace, and which influenced the creation of its two most storied watches, the Chronomat and the Navitimer, which introduced the innovative slide rule bezel that allowed pilots to make quick calculations on their wrist. Breitling has become the favored watch of pilots and jet-set travelers and has expanded the scope of its appeal with models like the Superocean divers’ watch and its dressy sport chronograph, the Premier. Breitling has also revamped and expanded the size offerings in both its Navitimer and Chronomat collections, demonstrating a continued commitment to the aviation classics that put it on the map.
