Yes, it’s time for another Swatch x Omega MoonSwatch release. Just a few months after the Audemars Piguet Royal Pop collab comes the new Mission to the Moon 1969 MoonSwatch, a decidedly more luxurious take on the otherwise non-precious phenomenon. Limited to 1,969 pieces (1969 was the year of the Apollo 11 moon landing, as I am sure you know), this black and gold MoonSwatch is one of the best looking and I am sure ultimately desirable models yet. Unlike previous hype releases, this one will be sold through an application process called Electronic Swatch Timepiece Application (ESTA) which runs through July 21st.

The Mission to the Moon 1969 seems to be all about the gold. In fact, they even made sure that the gold used here dates back to 1969 by melting spare parts from that year. Altogether there is 11 grams of gold used on the dial, hands, crown and pushers. The gold accents really do look fantastic, especially the beveled gold indices filled with black varnish and bioceramic black. The black rubber strap with gold accents pulls the whole package together nicely. The rest of the basics here are the same with a 42mm wide case measuring 13.25mm thick with a 47.3mm lug-to-lug height.

I’ve always loved the black and gold aesthetic on a Speedy and this MoonSwatch immediately made me think of the Speedmaster Ref. 310.60.42.50.99.002 which is done in solid Moonshine gold with black accents. Obviously, this is a $53,500 watch compared to the $570 MoonSwatch but the vibes really do punch above their weight class.

The application process is an interesting development and one that is fairly expected given some of the chaos that can erupt over super hyped releases like this. Especially when we are talking about just 1,969 pieces. If you’re interested, you can find all the salient details on how to apply and how the process works over here. And If you’re lucky, you could be one of the 1,969 people chosen to buy this $570 Swatch x Omega Mission to the Moon 1969 MoonSwatch.
