German high-horology maestro A. Lange & Söhne introduced the Odysseus, its first integrated-bracelet sport-luxury watch and its first-ever timepiece in a steel case and bracelet, in 2019. It has been expanding the options very slowly and judiciously ever since, with each new iteration riveting the attention of the watch-enthusiast community. In 2020, the Odysseus debuted in white gold, mounted on a black rubber strap instead of a bracelet, the latter also a first for the Saxon manufacture. In 2022 came the first Odysseus in titanium, and in 2023, Lange unveiled the Odysseus Chronograph, adding an ingenious and distinctive complication to the series. At Watches & Wonders 2025 this week, A. Lange & Söhne welcomed perhaps the most exquisitely luxurious iteration yet, the Odysseus Honeygold, a 100-piece limited edition in the brand’s proprietary precious metal.
Honeygold, whose composition is a closely guarded secret but includes 75 percent pure gold, made its debut in 2010 and has been used only on very select, special editions in subsequent years — 15 of them in total, according to the brand. It is notable for its exceptional hardness as well as its warm, glossy appearance, somewhere between traditional white gold and rose gold, both achieved with a special heat treatment. On this Odysseus model, the golden hue of the case and bracelet coordinates beautifully with another aesthetic rarity for A. Lange & Sohne: a chocolate brown dial.
The basics of the case, dial, and bracelet will be familiar to fans of the original Odysseus: the case is 40.5mm in diameter and 11.1mm thick with satin-brushed finishing and chamfered edges. Its middle part is slightly cantilevered, with tapered pushers at 2 and 4 o’clock on the right side. These pushers are used for quick adjustment of the date and day-of-the-week displays, which are serenely balanced in large apertures at 3 and 9 o’clock. The central, lancet-shaped hands tell the time against the multi-textured, brown expanse of the dial, while the running seconds skip around the subdial at 6 o’clock. All the text on the dial is executed in a high-contrast white: even the large Arabic numerals on the date disks, which are framed in the parallel apertures, are white on a brown background.
The dial’s outer edge features an azurage finish, a treatment also given to the 6 o’clock subdial, while its center has a grained surface. The notched, baton-shaped indexes for the hours are made from the same Honeygold as the case and are applied to a beveled flange; the hands and indexes are treated with Super-LumiNova. An extra note of subtle, bright color is provided by the red numeral “60” at the 12 o’clock position on the flange. Despite the inarguable beauty of the Honeygold case, the Odysseus is also the most robust watch in Lange’s lineup, water-resistant to 120 meters.
Also carried over from previous iterations of the Odysseus is the self-winding, manufacture Caliber L155.1, which is, in Lange tradition, visible through a sapphire exhibition caseback. Its rotor has a central mass made of platinum and rotates in one direction to provide a sturdy power reserve of 50 hours when the watch is fully wound. The rotor is also partially skeletonized to allow a better view of the horological glory behind it, which includes the German-silver plate, the hand-engraved balance bridge, the in-house-produced balance spring, and a screwed gold chaton. The movement comprises 312 total parts, including fully 99 components devoted to the large day-date mechanism alone.
The A. Lange & Söhne Odysseus Honeygold comes on the emblematic five-link bracelet that the brand debuted on the original model (at the time, its first bracelet), here with all of its links made from lustrous Honeygold. The bracelet closes with a safety-deployant clasp engraved with the Lange emblem, and its length can be adjusted via pushers in small increments, up to 7 mm. Deliveries, according to the brand, should begin in late 2025, with the price likely exceeding $100,000.
