History

Founded in 1860 by Edouard Heuer, the Swiss brand then known as Heuer was built on a foundation of family leadership and innovation, pillars that have remained central to its modern identity. With a first patent granted in 1869, the brand's early focus on chronographs paved the way for precision advancements at the turn of the 20th century that powered timing devices used in everything from medicine to leading sporting events, including the Olympics and the Indianapolis 500. As chronographs transitioned from pocket watches to wrist watches in the decades that followed, the brand remained a technological trailblazer while establishing the distinctly bold design language now at the core of its contemporary sport watch collection, including the Monaco famously worn by Steve McQueen. The brand’s 1985 transition to TAG Heuer saw the continuation of its chronograph heritage while ushering in a new era of icons, from the colorful TAG Heuer Formula 1 in 1986 to 2004’s Aquaracer line.
