Seiko is fleshing out its Presage Classic Series with a trio of new regular-production references and a single limited-edition reference, each of which pick up on a theme that began with the 36mm Presage "Edo Silk" collection last year. The new time-only watches arrive in 38mm cases, and boast a new interpretation of a silky texture, this time serving as a nod to the pearl-like finish of finely woven Tomioka silk. That means a new, subtle yet fine texture is brought to life within the dials of these watches across a thoughtful palette, bringing out a very different personality from the Presage Classic formula.

The newest members of the Presage Classic Series are the regular-production References HCC001, HCC002, and HCC003, while the 2,000-piece limited edition rose-gold-plated example is the Reference HCC008. All make use of the Seiko 6R51 automatic movement, which is visible through an exhibition caseback. What it lacks in finish it makes up for with a healthy 72-hour power reserve and a reasonable -15/+25 seconds per day of regulation. The real draw here are the dials, and the new 38mm sizing convention for those looking for a little more wrist presence than the Edo Silk references offered.

The dials are rendered in silver, green, and pink, each taking inspiration from a different part of the process of, and the culture around, creating Tomioka silk — from the young bamboo often used in kimono dyeing, to cherry blossoms unique to Japan’s ecosystem. Each is subtle in nature, while the texture itself creates a highly dynamic experience depending on viewing angle and conditions. Zooming in, the texture itself is wave-like, following a petal shape in a concentric fashion around the dial. It’s exactly the kind of form and execution that Seiko has become so adept at, and it works wonderfully here.

In addition to the three steel references, a rose-gold plated limited edition is also being released, which uses gold accents atop a silver dial. This particular example also uses a coin-edge bezel that adds another dimension to the experience of the watch. It’s a choice that would have worked well across the entirety of the collection, but it does bring something a little extra special to the limited edition, which is always welcome.
Overall, this new Presage Classic Series that honors the Tomioka Silk Promotion Organization is another vibrant feather in an already highly expressive family of watches. Once again, Seiko has resisted the temptation to use a date complication, retaining a high level of focus on preserving the unique dial experience, and the watches are all the better for it.

These new Seiko Presage Classic 38mm models will become available in July 2026, with each of the regular-production watches offered on either a leather strap or a steel seven- link bracelet. Pricing is set at €1,050 for the HCC001 and HCC002; €1,030 for the HCC003; and finally, €1,200 for the limited edition HCC008.
