News: Oris Channels The Glamour Of Miss Piggy With Second Muppets ProPilot X Collaboration

Back in 2023, Oris debuted its first collaboration with The Muppets: the lime-green “Kermit Day” Edition of the Pro Pilot X Caliber 400, complete with a specialized date with the world’s most recognized frog on it. Today, the brand reunites with its old Muppet pals but has a new muse: the incomparable, unabashedly fabulous Miss Piggy. The ProPilot X Miss Piggy edition infuses the brand’s sporty line with the character’s signature taste for the finer things in life, using a baguette diamond to mark the 12 o'clock position, and creating a vibrant limited edition that is simplistic with just the right amount of ‘tude.  

As a recovering theater kid and somewhat of a self-identifying diva myself, Miss Piggy’s brazen theatrical persona has always resonated with me. If you haven’t had the joy of seeing her razor-sharp wit in action in many years and are in need of a refresher, I highly recommend revisiting this compilation of Miss Piggy's guest-star turn on Martha Stewart’s holiday baking show through the years. Prone to bouts of the dramatic and known for her penchant for the glamorous, Miss Piggy merits a watch that leans into a sense of dynamism fitting of her personality. 

Oris has chosen to do this primarily through its all-pink color scheme, featuring a hot pink dial, along with applied indices in a slightly different, more magenta-leaning hue to help aid in legibility. The largely monochromatic color choice gives the baguette diamond positioned at 12 o’clock its moment to shine in the limelight; the eye is immediately drawn to its stark contrast with the shock of pink that surrounds it. A special element of this edition is its sizing. For the first time, Oris has shrunk down the dimensions of its ProPilot X, which is typically done in either 39mm or 44mm, to a much more demure diameter of just 34mm. I guess we could take this to mean that Miss Piggy is all for the small-watch trend, and gives it her stamp of approval. 

But where is Miss Piggy, anyway? The immediate view of the watch doesn’t bare any obvious connection to the collaboration, and Oris has instead opted to embrace Miss Piggy’s coy and sly side. When you flip the watch over, you’ll find a tiny but mighty glamour shot of Miss Piggy, situated on top of the lilac-hued rotor, which appears and disappears with a flourish as the rotor, well, rotates. Now that we’re on the topic of more technical specs, the movement within is the Oris Caliber 531 – an automatic mechanical movement with stop-second functionality and 42 hours of power reserve. Additionally, the ProPilot X Miss Piggy Edition is as action-ready in its build as it is fabulously pink, boasting a water resistance of 100 meters. 

The term “pink it and shrink it” has had a lasting negative connotation in the contemporary discourse on the tropes of how watches are marketed to women. That being said, I don’t know how anyone could create a Miss Piggy edition of a watch and not make it pink. It seems a bit of an odd choice to relegate a diva such as Miss Piggy to the background of a watch, but I suppose you can read this detail as allowing its wearer to take center stage and have their own main character moment. All in all, I think I might have personally preferred a Miss Piggy date window, but I can give props to Oris for breaking the previously established Kermit mode in favor of something novel.
